Deepavali, or Diwali, is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. That gives you one week to sort out the open-house table, and the boxes you are sending to the people you love.
This year we made two Deepavali sweets for it, both built around milk, which is where most Deepavali sweets start. A Mithai Burfi Gift Box of 25 hand-cut squares, which is eggless, and a 1kg board of Pattasu Palkova Cake Bites for a crowd, which contains egg. If some of your guests are vegetarian and avoid egg, the burfi is the one to set out for them. Here is what each one is, who it feeds, and how to get it there on time.
Both are a limited Deepavali menu. We make them by hand, in small batches, and when they sell out, that is it for this year.

Why milk sweets
A Deepavali table is usually murukku and a spread of sweets. Many of those sweets, the mithai or Indian sweets, are milk cooked down slowly until it turns into something you can cut, roll or shape. Burfi and palkova are two of the best known.
That is a pastry problem as much as a festive one. Milk is the first thing you taste, so there is nowhere to hide: the dairy has to be good, the sweetness has to sit back, and the texture has to be right. So we started there.
Mithai Burfi Gift Box (25 pcs)

If you have never had burfi, think of a firm milk fudge: dense, smooth, and cut into squares. Ours is made with full cream milk powder, milk and ghee, in three flavours.
- Milk burfi. The plain one, and the test of the other two. A rounded, buttery finish from the ghee.
- Pistachio burfi. We grind the pistachios ourselves, in our own kitchen, on a stone grinder. Slow work, but it is why the burfi tastes of the nut itself.
- Chocolate burfi. Made with couverture dark chocolate and cocoa powder, so it finishes full-bodied against the milk.
Each box holds 9 milk, 8 pistachio and 8 chocolate, packed in a clear gift box about 25cm across. It works as a Deepavali gift box on its own, with no hamper needed. It is eggless, which matters at a lot of Deepavali tables. It does contain dairy and nuts (pistachio, almond and hazelnut).
Set it out with a pot of masala chai, or send it to the people you love. Keep it in the fridge, and it is best eaten within three days.

Pattasu Palkova Cake Bites (1kg)

Palkova is a milk sweet from Tamil Nadu, made by simmering milk until it turns thick and lightly caramelised. Our palkova icing is our take on that flavour: full cream milk powder, butter and icing sugar, piped over plain buttercake. Each bite is milky on top and buttery underneath.
The other half of the board is our Ultimate Chocolate Cake, finished with a dark piped swirl, for the guests who just love chocolate. Because chocolate never goes wrong.
We named it after pattasu, the firecrackers of Deepavali night, which is where the orange and red rosettes come from.
- 64 bites in four blocks of 16: two palkova, two Ultimate Chocolate
- Feeds about 30 at two bites each
- Nobody needs a knife. It arrives portioned, so you can put it down and let people help themselves
This is the one for the open-house table, or for an office Deepavali celebration where there is no table, no plates and no single moment when everyone is free. Pair it with a good cup of coffee. It contains dairy, egg, wheat and barley (malt), and is best consumed within three days, refrigerated.

Which one should you order?
- Hosting open house? The cake bites. 64 pieces, already portioned, and the chocolate half covers the kids.
- Visiting, or sending a gift? The burfi box. It looks like a gift, and it is eggless.
- Big family gathering? Both. The burfi as a gift for the family to keep or share, and the cake bites for everyone.
- Office celebration? Count heads, not boxes. One board of bites for about 30 people.
